01 — Overview

From Huizhou to Hong Kong, one car all the way is the easiest way

Huizhou sits in eastern Guangdong, so reaching Hong Kong means crossing the Shenzhen–Hong Kong border first. Only a handful of land crossings allow vehicles through, and ordinary mainland or Hong Kong cars cannot move freely across the border. For most people, the easy option is a licensed cross-border MPV with a professional driver who picks you up at your Huizhou address and delivers you straight to your Hong Kong destination, clearing immigration en route with no vehicle change and no luggage transfers.

We have run Hong Kong and Macau cross-border charters for ten years, with 30+ owned MPVs and 50,000+ customers served. Below we explain how to pick a crossing, how long the drive takes, how clearance works, and why self-driving is so hard.

02 — Crossings

Only a few crossings take vehicles — know them before you pick

Huizhou is in eastern Guangdong, closest to the easternmost end of the border. The crossings that actually take vehicles are the ones below. Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai is the most direct for East Guangdong; for late nights or red-eye flights, prioritise 24-hour Huanggang.

Huizhou-side cross-border crossings guide: Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai 07:00-22:00 most direct, Huanggang/Lok Ma Chau 24h, Shenzhen Bay 06:30-24:00 co-location, HZMB 24h

Note: Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai opened in 2020 at the easternmost end of the border, linked directly to Huizhou's districts via the Huiyan Expressway — the closest and most direct vehicle crossing for Huizhou, using two-stop clearance. Huanggang/Lok Ma Chau is the only 24-hour land vehicle crossing; the new Huanggang uses co-location clearance on the Shenzhen side since 2023. Shenzhen Bay is also co-location; it is a slight detour from Huizhou but traffic is steady. The HZMB sits on the western side of the Pearl River estuary — a major detour for Huizhou, so it is rarely used for Huizhou↔Hong Kong. Opening hours and vehicle eligibility follow the official Hong Kong government control-point pages (see sources at the end).

03 — Reference prices

Huizhou → Hong Kong reference prices for common routes

Below are one-way reference prices for a 7-seat MPV (Alphard / V-Class). Actual quotes depend on pickup area, destination, time slot and crossing, and include driver, tolls and crossing transfer; final confirmation applies. Because Huizhou is farther from the crossings, prices usually sit in the upper-middle range.

Huizhou to Hong Kong route reference prices: Huiyang/Daya Bay to HK city from HK$1200, Huizhou city to TST/Central from HK$1400, Disneyland from HK$1800, HK Airport from HK$2000

Drive times are experience-based estimates including clearance and are heavily affected by crossing queues, traffic and time of day; peaks, holidays and Friday / Sunday evenings are usually longer. The airport and Disneyland are in western Hong Kong and farther away, so they normally carry a surcharge. For a 23-seat Coaster group vehicle, round trips or full-day hire, please request a separate quote.

04 — Clearance

One car all the way, how clearance works

The benefit of a licensed cross-border MPV is one car and one driver the whole way — you only need to complete immigration checks at the crossing.

  • STEP 1 · Pickup
The driver arrives at your Huizhou pickup address on time to collect you and your luggage
  • STEP 2 · Exit
Drive to the crossing via the Huiyan Expressway and complete mainland exit checks
  • STEP 3 · Entry
Shenzhen Bay / new Huanggang co-location is done in one building; Liantang / Heung Yuen Wai uses two-stop clearance on each side
  • STEP 4 · Direct
After clearance, the same car drives straight to your Hong Kong destination — no vehicle change, no transfers

05 — Why charter

Why can't I just drive to Hong Kong myself?

For cross-border driving, both the car and the driver must be approved first. Regular quotas (the dual licence plate, or Yue-Z plate) require approval from Guangdong public security plus a Closed Road Permit (CRP) from Hong Kong's Transport Department — and regular quotas have long been tied to a company's Guangdong investment, tax contributions or charitable donations, with high thresholds, making them hard to obtain individually. The "Hong Kong vehicles going north" scheme (from mid-2023) eased northbound entry for Hong Kong private cars, but only via the HZMB into Guangdong and only for Hong Kong-plated self-drive vehicles — none of this solves the need to be driven from Huizhou into and out of urban Hong Kong.

An ordinary mainland or Hong Kong car without a dual plate or the relevant permit cannot legally cross the border freely. That is exactly why a "licensed cross-border MPV + professional driver" is the mainstream choice for point-to-point Huizhou↔Hong Kong transfers.

06 — FAQ

Before you go, the questions people ask most

Which crossing is fastest for a Huizhou to Hong Kong charter?
It depends on your pickup area and destination. For East Guangdong, the closest and most direct is Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai (linked via the Huiyan Expressway). For red-eye flights or all-hours clearance, use 24-hour Huanggang/Lok Ma Chau; Shenzhen Bay is also popular thanks to its smooth co-location clearance. The HZMB is a major detour for Huizhou and is usually avoided. The driver picks the crossing based on current traffic and queues.
Can I drive my own car straight from Huizhou into Hong Kong?
No. A cross-border vehicle must hold a Guangdong–Hong Kong dual plate (Yue-Z plate + Hong Kong Closed Road Permit); an ordinary single-plate car is not eligible. "Hong Kong vehicles going north" only covers Hong Kong-plated cars heading north via the HZMB and cannot meet the need to transfer people into and out of urban Hong Kong from Huizhou. So a charter company with a legal dual plate providing "car + licensed driver" is the practical, compliant choice.
How long does Huizhou to Hong Kong take?
Roughly 2.5–3.5 hours one way (including clearance, traffic dependent). Huiyang / Daya Bay are closer at about 2–3 hours; the Hong Kong airport or Disneyland are in western Hong Kong and farther, about 3–4 hours. Holidays and crossing peaks add significant queueing time.
What documents do I need for a cross-border charter?
Mainland residents need an Exit-Entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macau (EEP) with a valid endorsement; Hong Kong residents use a Home Return Permit; foreign travellers use a passport plus a Hong Kong visa or visa-free eligibility. Check your endorsement type and validity before departure; documents must be carried by the holder in person.
Is it co-location clearance or two separate checks?
It depends on the crossing: Shenzhen Bay and the new Huanggang use co-location, completing both sides' checks in one go on the mainland side, which saves time; Liantang / Heung Yuen Wai is traditional two-stop, with separate checks on the Hong Kong and Shenzhen sides. General travellers clear via self-service or staffed counters in the passenger hall, while cross-border MPVs usually use the vehicle e-channel.
Can you do door-to-door drop-off at the airport, Disneyland or a hotel?
Yes. A dual-plate cross-border charter can do point-to-point drop-off at Hong Kong city hotels, Hong Kong International Airport, Disneyland and more; the airport and Disneyland are in western Hong Kong and farther away, so a surcharge usually applies. Allow plenty of buffer time for clearance and traffic.
Roughly how much is a Huizhou to Hong Kong cross-border charter?
Reference prices (estimates, HKD, actual quote applies): about HK$1,200–2,200 one way for a 7-seat MPV; outlying areas (such as Huidong) or round trips / airport transfers cost more. Compared with Shenzhen from about HK$700, Huizhou usually sits in the upper-middle range because it is farther from the crossings.
