From Zhaoqing to Macau,one vehicle all the way is the easiest option

Zhaoqing sits in western Guangdong, more than 200 km from the Zhuhai and Macau ports, and an ordinary mainland private car cannot freely cross into Macau. That makes "driving yourself over" both paperwork-heavy and impractical. For most travellers the easiest approach is a licensed cross-boundary van with a professional driver, taking you from your Zhaoqing pickup address straight to your Macau destination. You only step out for border checks along the way, with no vehicle change and no dragging luggage between transfers.

02 — Ports

Know which ports take vehicles before you choose

Most Zhuhai–Macau ports are pedestrian inspection only (such as Gongbei and Qingmao). The ones that genuinely take licensed vehicles are the HZMB Zhuhai road port and Hengqin Port. To take "passengers and vehicle together" straight into Macau, prioritise these two; if only people need to cross, we can drop you at Gongbei or Qingmao to walk through and connect on the Macau side.

Note: Gongbei and Qingmao are pedestrian-only inspection ports, so vehicles cannot enter Macau through them. The HZMB port opened on 24 October 2018 with 24-hour clearance; Hengqin Port uses the new "joint inspection, one-time clearance" model, with the Macau port area extended into Hengqin so you can reach Taipa / Cotai through it. 05 — Why charter

Why can't you just drive to Macau yourself?

For cross-boundary driving, both the vehicle and the driver must be approved first. To travel between Guangdong and Macau regularly, a vehicle needs a Guangdong–Macau / Guangdong–Hong Kong "dual plate" (Yue Z, etc.), and those quotas are chronically scarce with a high bar to qualify (usually corporate investment, tax record or specific eligibility), making them impractical for a short personal trip. The convenience schemes for private cars run mainly via the HZMB: Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles, Macao vehicles northbound, the regular quota for Hong Kong cars to Macao, and bridge Park-and-Ride all use ballots or quotas, are limited to compliant vehicles and people, and cap each stay and the annual total. None of them solve the need to "ride straight from Zhaoqing to Macau."

An ordinary mainland car or a Hong Kong / Macau car, without a dual plate or the relevant permit, cannot legally cross the boundary to Macau on its own. That is exactly why a "licensed cross-boundary van plus professional driver" is the mainstream choice for point-to-point Zhaoqing-to-Macau transfers.

Departing Zhaoqing for Macau, can the charter drive straight through the border?

Not with an ordinary car freely. Only vehicles holding a Guangdong–Macau / Guangdong–Hong Kong dual plate, or approved under schemes like Northbound Travel, can legally cross the bridge or border; an ordinary mainland private car has no cross-boundary status. The practical options are a licensed cross-boundary charter straight through, or a charter to the Zhuhai port (walk through at Gongbei / Qingmao, or licensed vehicles via Hengqin / HZMB) where passengers clear and connect on the Macau side.

How long is the Zhaoqing to Macau drive?

From Zhaoqing city to the Zhuhai ports is about 2.5–3.5 hours (estimate, depending on pickup area, traffic and clearance queues). Once in Macau, add roughly 20–60 minutes to reach St. Paul's or a Cotai hotel. Port queues lengthen noticeably on holidays, so allow a buffer.

What hours is the HZMB port open? Is it 24 hours?

Yes. Hong Kong Immigration Department records show the HZMB port opened on 24 October 2018 with 24-hour clearance; the Hengqin Port "first line" is also 24 hours, suiting early or late travel. Gongbei runs roughly 06:00 to 01:00 the next day, subject to on-site notices.

Why not just get a dual plate and drive over myself?

Dual-plate (Yue Z, etc.) quotas are chronically scarce, with a high application bar (usually corporate investment and tax records) and a long lead time, so they make no sense for a short personal trip. By comparison, a charter that is already licensed and authorised to carry passengers across the boundary saves the paperwork, stays compliant and is far easier.

Roughly how much does a charter cost?
