There is no single "fastest port" —only the one that fits your direction
People often ask whether Shenzhen Bay is the fastest. In reality, clearance speed depends on three things: where you start and where you're headed, what time you cross, and whether you're in a stay-in-vehicle dual-plate car. Leaving from Hong Kong airport, the best port for Nanshan is not the best port for Sha Tin.
The opening hours in the table below come straight from the Shenzhen Municipal Port Office and the Hong Kong Transport Department. We then layer on practical direction advice for charters. Always confirm against the official notice on your travel day.

Which port to take, by the three situations that cover most trips
Huanggang: the only 24-hour port
Catching a pre-dawn flight, or landing late at night? Huanggang is the only vehicle crossing open round the clock. The new port uses "co-location, single clearance," so the process is tight. When every other port has closed, this is your default.

Shenzhen Bay: one-stop clearance
Hong Kong and mainland checks happen at the same spot, so you skip the mid-route transfer. For Hong Kong airport and Tung Chung, and for Shenzhen's Nanshan and Qianhai, Shenzhen Bay flows best. Passenger hours run 06:30 to midnight.

Liantang: quiet and easy
On the Hong Kong side this is the Heung Yuen Wai control point, with the lightest passenger flow and usually the shortest wait. It's the first choice for cars heading toward Sha Tin and Tai Po on the eastern New Territories route.

04 — The key benefit
"Stay-in-vehicle clearance" — where it actually saves you
Travelling with elderly parents, young kids and a pile of luggage, the last thing you want is to drag suitcases on and off a bus and queue on foot. That's exactly what a dual-plate charter removes.
A dual-plate car holds the Guangdong–Hong Kong cross-boundary licence — the driving approval notice issued by the Guangdong Public Security Department plus the Closed Road Permit issued by the Hong Kong Transport Department — so it can drive straight through the vehicle lanes. In most cases passengers never change vehicles or carry luggage, going door-to-door from your Hong Kong address to your mainland destination.
Before you book, confirm three things: which port, whether you stay in the car the whole way, and whether the quote already includes the crossing fee.

So which port clears fastest?
There's no absolute fastest. Late at night, Huanggang (the only 24-hour port). Toward Hong Kong airport or Nanshan, Shenzhen Bay (co-location). To dodge the crowds, Liantang (lightest flow). The best port depends on your start and end points and the time you cross.
Can I choose which port the charter uses?
Yes. A proper dual-plate charter will recommend a port based on your Hong Kong pickup and mainland destination, and you can request one too. Tell the driver your start and end points and let them propose the fastest routing.
Is "stay in the vehicle" really true?
In a dual-plate car, passengers stay in the vehicle in most cases. At some ports or in some situations a brief step-out for inspection may still be required, so confirm with the operator which port you'll use and whether you truly stay in the car the whole way.
Arriving at HK airport overnight — how do I cross back to Shenzhen?
