Liantang / Heung Yuen Wai is the seventh and newest land control point between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Cargo clearance opened in August 2020, and full passenger operation began in February 2023. It is Hong Kong's first control point designed for "direct access by passengers and vehicles": private cars, cross-boundary coaches and goods vehicles can all cross, and the Mainland side links straight into the Shenzhen Eastern Corridor. Liantang / Heung Yuen Wai,the new eastern gateway between HK and Shenzhen

The Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point sits at Heung Yuen Wai in the North District of the New Territories (the Ta Kwu Ling / Sha Tau Kok area), with a Passenger Clearance Building on the Hong Kong side. On the Shenzhen side it is Liantang Port in Luohu District, connecting directly to the Shenzhen Eastern Corridor. It is the seventh and newest land crossing between the two cities — cargo clearance opened in August 2020, and full passenger operation began in February 2023.

Unlike Shenzhen Bay's co-location arrangement, Heung Yuen Wai uses conventional two-side (juxtaposed) clearance: travellers clear Hong Kong formalities on the Heung Yuen Wai side, then cross the boundary to the Liantang side for Mainland clearance (co-location currently applies only to West Kowloon High Speed Rail and the redeveloped Huanggang Port). It is also Hong Kong's first control point designed for "direct access by passengers and vehicles", open to private cars, coaches and goods vehicles, and it eases pressure on Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau while strengthening eastern Greater Bay Area road links.

Heung Yuen Wai uses two-side clearance, so the key point is this: Hong Kong and Shenzhen each have their own clearance areas. Travellers clear Hong Kong formalities at the Heung Yuen Wai Passenger Clearance Building, then cross the boundary to the Liantang side in Shenzhen for Mainland clearance. 03 — Crossing steps

From Hong Kong to Shenzhen,crossing at Heung Yuen Wai

Heung Yuen Wai is two-side clearance: you finish Hong Kong formalities first, then cross the boundary to the Liantang side for Mainland formalities. Below is a typical northbound flow (Hong Kong → Shenzhen).

STEP 1 · Set off
Drive to the port from Hong Kong via Heung Yuen Wai Highway (off Fanling Highway / Route 9). Motorists must first book a space online at the Heung Yuen Wai BCP Public Car Park (mandatory for HK-bound vehicles since 17 Feb 2023)
STEP 2 · HK clearance
Enter the Hong Kong vehicle clearance lanes and complete Hong Kong Immigration and Customs formalities; enrolled drivers may use the vehicular e-Channel; bus and pedestrian travellers clear at the HK Passenger Clearance Building
STEP 3 · Cross the boundary
Because this is two-side clearance, you cross the boundary to the Liantang side in Shenzhen before continuing to Mainland clearance (unlike co-location)
STEP 4 · Mainland clearance
Complete Mainland (Shenzhen) immigration and customs at Liantang Port; carry your Exit-Entry Permit + valid endorsement; HK permanent residents may use the e-Channel

Citybus B7, B8 and KMB B9 (with special departures to/from Fanling Station) run to the port; KMB B9A (Yuen Long West – HYWBCP) operates on weekends and public holidays on a trial basis, subject to the latest notice. A pedestrian subway also provides access on foot.

An ordinary Mainland or Hong Kong car without dual plates and the relevant permits cannot legally cross the boundary freely. Most people choose a "licensed cross-boundary car + professional driver": one car all the way, door to door, which suits families, older travellers and business trips especially well. Even though Heung Yuen Wai is two-side clearance, its "direct access by passengers and vehicles" design means the car stays with you throughout and you never have to drag your bags.

Heung Yuen Wai suits travellers heading to eastern Shenzhen (Luohu East, Yantian, Longgang) or anyone needing the Shenzhen Eastern Corridor; for late nights and red-eye flights use the 24-hour Huanggang / Lok Ma Chau instead.

Can private cars cross at Liantang / Heung Yuen Wai?

Yes. Heung Yuen Wai is Hong Kong's first control point designed for "direct access by passengers and vehicles", so cross-boundary private cars, coaches and goods vehicles are all permitted, with vehicular e-Channels available. Cross-boundary vehicles (except taxis) need a Closed Road Permit; since 17 Feb 2023, HK-bound private cars must first book a space online at the Heung Yuen Wai BCP Public Car Park.

What are the operating hours of the control point?

Passenger clearance runs 07:00 to 22:00 daily, the same on both the Hong Kong and Shenzhen sides; cargo clearance is 24 hours. For late-night travel, use the 24-hour Huanggang / Lok Ma Chau crossing instead.
