It uses a two-stop (conventional) arrangement — Hong Kong and Shenzhen immigration and customs checks are completed separately on each side, not a single co-location one-stop clearance.

Passenger clearance was suspended in early 2020 for COVID-19 and fully resumed on 6 February 2023 alongside normal HK–Mainland travel. Because the port lies inside the Frontier Closed Area and operates 07:00–22:00, its travellers are mostly on cross-boundary coaches, hire cars and freight rather than walk-up passengers, making it a quieter alternative to Lo Wu / Lok Ma Chau and well suited to door-to-door licensed cross-border charter.
